There’s something satisfying about turning the ordinary into something striking. Today’s subject? Garlic. Yes, garlic. A few bulbs had been sitting on the counter long enough to sprout, and with my new light arriving, I figured—why not make something of it?
The results surprised me. The sprouts gave the composition an organic, almost alien-like feel, reaching and twisting toward the light. The contrast between the delicate, papery skin and the strong, defined shapes of the shoots worked beautifully in black and white. The new light really proved its worth here, adding depth and making those highlights pop.
It’s a reminder that photography doesn’t always need grand landscapes or complex setups. Sometimes, a humble bulb of garlic and the right lighting can create something striking. Definitely a subject worth revisiting—maybe next time, onions?
